Scan PDFs become a collection

What we deliver

• From scan PDFs to real full text: article-level splitting, including reviews and miscellanea, with per-article metadata, ready for Crossref DOI registration under your prefix.
• Full-text XML as JATS (articles) and BITS (books), plus searchable PDFs with a correct text layer, platform-ready for your eLibrary. Your platform stays.
• Accessibility under the German BFSG: tagged PDFs (PDF/UA) and EPUB 3. A scan-image PDF cannot meet the BFSG requirements; real full text is the precondition.
• Metadata feeds as MARC 21, ONIX, CSV and KBART; archive packages for Portico and CLOCKSS.

• One JATS file per article. Valid against the NISO DTD, with per-article metadata down to the individual review. Article boundaries are not taken from the table of contents but checked at the image on every first and last page. Blank pages are recognised and assigned to no page range.
• One Crossref deposit per volume. XSD-valid, with the page range of every article, ready for registration under your prefix.
• A proof view. Every page beside its facsimile, opened in a browser, no installation, no network.
• A reading version per article. The running text with the printed page numbers in the margin and the author's notes. Footnotes anchored at their reference, emphasis to the character, Greek passages in the original script.
• The facsimiles, named by printed page. Every JATS file points to its image per page, so text and source stay linked in your platform.
• Delivery documentation. Subject, scope, capture conventions and the validation status of every file, reproducible with the enclosed schemas.
• Findings on the source. The typesetter's own errors, each shown at the scan and left unchanged in the delivery. Whether they are silently corrected, visibly emended or left stands with the publisher. The register is the basis for that decision.
• Findings on existing datasets. Where a volume already has a capture, from a digitisation programme for instance, a report on what it contains and what it does not, before deciding what of it carries into the delivery.
